Air Liquide’s new liquid gases plant ‘the biggest in Uttar Pradesh’

French industrial gases company Air Liquide has inaugurated a new air separation unit (ASU) in India.

Serving the healthcare industry – hospitals in particular – and industrial merchants, it has a daily production capacity of more than 300 tonnes of liquid oxygen and medical oxygen, 45 tonnes of liquid nitrogen and 12 tonnes of liquid argon.

Located in the city of Kosi, the liquid gases plant is said to now be the biggest in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Clients across the state will be served, as well as elsewhere across northern India in places like Delhi, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

In line with Air Liquide’s sustainability objectives, it is intended to operate on renewable energy by 2030 completely.

The ASU was first announced in January 2022 and represents an investment of approximately INR350 crores ($41.9m).

Pascal Vinet, executive vice president at Air Liquide, said at the time: “The construction of a new plant in Uttar Pradesh is a very important milestone for Air Liquide in India.

“This new significant investment will give us the ability to better serve our customers, while also investing in the long-term growth opportunities of this key State. It also shows our confidence in the sustained growth of the Indian industry. This investment aligns with Air Liquide’s Sustainable Objectives as this ASU is meant to ultimately solely run on renewable energy.”

This news is in line with Air Liquide’s recent investment trend in the Asiatic region. In March, it announced a new $20m hydrogen centre in Tianjin, China. In the same month, it announced plans to develop ammonia and hydrogen infrastructure in Singapore.
