Black & Veatch and Baker Hughes partner for mid-scale LNG solution | LNG | gasworld

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure solutions provider Black and Veatch has partnered with Baker Hughes to combine technologies for a new mid-scale LNG solution.

Specifically, the partnership will combine Baker Hughes’ LM9000 gas turbine and compression technology with Black & Veatch’s PRICO® liquefaction technology.

It is hoped that the new offering will produce up to two million tonnes per annum of LNG per train.

Alberto Matucci, Vice-President of Gas Technology Equipment of Industrial & Energy Technology at Baker Hughes, described both technology and collaboration as key pillars in the company’s strategy.

Black & Veatch’s PRICO® technology became the world’s first proven floating LNG liquefaction technology to achieve production on a floating facility in 2016. Six projects that have selected the technology have now taken final investment decision (FID).

Youssef Merjaneh, Senior Vice-President and Managing Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Black & Veatch, said the company is in the process of deploying PRICO with the Baker Hughes’ LM9000 and compression technology on a current project in construction.

He added, “We are excited to now be able to offer this optimised solution to both onshore and floating LNG facilities that are considering mid-scale trains to monetise their natural gas assets and enable global LNG trading necessary to support the energy transition.”

LM9000 is suitable for a variety of mechanical drive and power generation applications, including onshore and offshore LNG projects.

The new collaboration agreement will offer a new solution that can be applied for both onshore and offshore applications.
